Geography Of Mexico

There are many factors that influence the styles of cooking and the ingredients used to make different dishes of food and flavors of drink. The two main factors are the geography and culture of a country and where it varies differences in food and drink will occur.

Geography: Depending on the landscape of a region the landforms can affect what grows in that area. There are four main regions in Mexico consisting of totally different geographical features. These geographical features are grouped into the regions, which are,

  1. Costal areas ( States like Colima, Jalisco, Chihuahua and Nayarit)
  2. Northern areas ( States like  Sonora and Baja and Baja sur)
  3. Yucatan area ( States like Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo)
  4. Cenrtal areas ( States like Puebla, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo and Morelos)

Each of the regions above have different geographical aspects that lead to having different food. Costal areas are close to the ocean so they use lots of fish while in northern Mexico it is vast and arid so the have lots livestock and in central Mexico there is lots of  traditional foods because it is close to where the Aztecs used to live.
